This is the future of careers
We have new options now
I was taught going to college, getting a 9-5 and working for 40 years to retirement was the 'successful' life.
I was taught by family, friends and the school system.
I now know that is far from the truth.
I learned several lessons that completely changed my paradigm on work, life and success.
And I'm not talking about everyone becoming an entrepreneur, that is unrealistic.
I learned:
Retirement is unattainable for most people
Your success cannot be defined by other people
Finding work you enjoy is the goal, not money
We are far from realizing the full effects of the internet and digital economy
Those 4 lessons, sparked a moment of change in my life that I never saw coming.
The problem is most people are never given that moment of change.
From the moment we are born, we are influenced by those around us.
By the time we reach school age, the influences grow even stronger.
By the time we are in our 20s, the voice that once held our unique voice is impossible to find.
It leaves us feeling lost, without purpose and chasing things that aren't important to us.
But the narrative is changing.
You can go to school or not.
You can make money online or not.
You can become an entrepreneur or not.
You can work for 40 years and retire or not.
You have never had as many options as you do today:
AI has given you leverage
Content has given you distribution
Code has given you reach, distribution and scale
Blockchain has given you decentralized ownership
All the trends point to one thing: empowering the individual to do more.
You are no longer reliant on a corporation for the life you want.
Content to grow your reach, code to distribute your product and AI to increase your output— all part of a toolset never available until now.
Most people in their 30s, 20s and teens think they are too late and missed the boat.
But it's actually the opposite.
We are at the beginning of the transition to the digital economy.
There will be more people online in 5 years, not less
There will be more money spent online in 5 years, not less
There will be more tools in 5 years, not less
You are not too late, and the digital economy has given us more options.
You have 2 options:
Sell your own product
Get paid for your skills
Either of these paths lead to a life of fulfillment, high income and maximum flexibility.
If you want the traditional path of working for a company. Learn as many high income skills as you can, and market those skills effectively.
Build your proof.
Work on your craft.
Become a leader in your industry.
If you are the entrepreneurial type, solve the biggest problem you can find in your life.
Then:
Build that solution into a product.
Distribute that product to as many people as possible
Find a new problem to solve, rinse and repeat.
Shift your perspective from money, retirement, power and success.
Instead focus on value, sustainability, flexibility and your definition of success.
Get clear on what YOU actually want.
Build a plan to achieve that goal. Work on that plan daily. Listen to the data, and iterate.
Doing that over 3 years has led me to more fulfillment, money and relationships that I am eternally grateful for.
I can't imagine what this will look like over a period of 5, 10 and 20 years.
(Clear Goals + Actionable Plan + Work Needed) x Time = Your Ideal Life
If you take nothing away from this, at least realize you are living in a time where the possibilities have never been larger.
But that applies to everyone, which means the competition is fiercer.
The ones who take calculated action for the longest period of time will be rewarded.
